Harsha Bhogle names Indian cricketer who would make a great future commentator

Legendary cricket pundit Harsha Bhogle has backed Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to become a good commentator after retirement.

With no cricket action happening due to ongoing Coronavirus crisis, several International stars are at home, making the maximum use of their respective Social Media accounts. While David Warner and Yuzvendra Chahal continue to amuze fans with their hilarious videos, many others keep it to just “cricket punditry”.

In this regard, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been hosting special guests on Instagram.

Recently, Ashwin had the presence of cricketer-turned-commentator-cum-expert Sanjay Manjrekar, where the two spoke at length on the infamous India-Sri Lanka 1996 World Cup semi-final clash at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After watching the interaction, renowned cricket presenter Harsha Bhogle made a judgment on Ashwin.

Bhogle wrote:

“Really enjoyed this interaction between @ashwinravi99 and @sanjaymanjrekar. Ashwin is curious and Sanjay approaches such issues with honesty and candour. In 1991, I had predicted that Sanjay and Ravi would make very good commentators. I am now saying that about Ashwin”

It will be interesting to see if Ashwin replies to Bhogle’s post. The veteran spinner has been most active on social media platform Twitter, with his views on several current happenings in the world. Moreover, given the vast amount of knowledge and good hold in speaking English, Ravi Ashwin might really prove to be an asset as a commentator post retirement.

Ashwin was last seen in action during the two-match Test series versus New Zealand in their own backyard. However, the series proved to be a forgettable affair for the entire Virat Kohli-led side as they succumbed to a 2-0 whitewash. The off-spinner was to be seen in action for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2020, which has been postponed twice in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
