Australia’s limited-overs captain, Aaron Finch was all set to wear the famous Royal Challengers Bangalore jersey in the 13th season of the IPL. However, the coronavirus brought the entire sporting world to a standstill and cricket was no exception as the much-anticipated 2020 IPL season got called off until further notice.
Finch, during a recent live session, was told to pick a combined India-Australia ODI XI. Can you guess who the first name on his team sheet was? Yes, none other than Virender Sehwag himself. During his prime, Sehwag was a world beater.
Finch said that he would love to watch Virender Sehwag and Adam Gilchrist bat alongside one another. The Aussie opener revealed that he initially thought he would choose Rohit Sharma but he would like to watch Gilchrist open with Sehwag. Following the Sehwag-Gilchrist pair, Finch went with Ponting at No.3 and Kohli at No.4.
“Sehwag is my number one pick. He was so dominant. As soon he was on, the game was over. I want to go with Rohit Sharma, his record is amazing but I want to watch Adam Gilchrist open with Virender Sehwag. I will go with Ricky Ponting at 3 and Virat Kohli at 4,” said Finch.
Hardik Pandya, Andrew Symonds, Brett Lee, Jasprit Bumrah and Glenn McGrath were the other prominent names in Finch’s India-Australia ODI XI.
Along with picking his team, Finch also gave his opinion on the possible international return of MS Dhoni. Speculations surrounding Dhoni’s retirement have been frequent as the legendary wicket-keeper batsman last played for the national team in the 2019 World Cup.
“I am not sure, I honestly don’t know about what MS Dhoni has being doing but Jesus great player, I love watching him but I can’t answer that because I just don’t know,” said Finch.
